De-spooking Clinic by Hannah Owens at Northern Lights on Saturday, August 16th, 8am - 5pm

Build your confidence by teaching your horse to be brave and trust in you as the team leader.

$100 EIDEA members, $130 Nonmembers, Auditing is free for EIDEA members and $20 for nonmembers. Lunch will be provided. Day stalls $20 (limited availability, contact Hannah Owens to reserve).

The day will start with an overview of the process, the dos and don'ts of approaching potentially scary things, and how to instill the horse with confidence and trust.

There will be the two morning groups of five horses each, focusing on in-hand / groundwork. A lunch provided by EIDEA. The afternoon will have the two groups of five horses ride through the obstacles, practice Trail Class or Working Equitation patterns and obstacles.

This clinic is limited to ten participants with five horses at a time in the arena. To ensure cohesive working groups, Hannah Owens will assess and assign you and your horse to either Group A or Group B. When not working with your horse you will be asked to help fellow participants, act as ground crew and join in the fun.

8:00 – 8:20 Overview Lecture (people only)

8:30 – 10:20 Group A (In-hand)

10:30 – 12:20 Group B (In-hand)

12:20 – 1:00 Lunch – Provided by EIDEA

1:00 – 2:50 Group A (Under Saddle)

3:00 – 4:50 Group B (Under Saddle)

These are some of the obstacles you will be working with: Bridge (without sides), Gate, Mailbox, Poles, Barrels, Cavaletti, Pool noodle curtain wall, Tarps, Trash trap (8x8 patch of plastic bottles/containers to walk through), hanging banners/streamers, Christmas tree/foliage area, lighting, sound and whatever else we come up with to have fun being brave!
